Hear About Miniatures has been involved with
Production in the Montgomery County, Pennsylvania 4-H for the past 7 years.
You may wonder what is "Production"?
In
Production, children who participate in 4-H select a horse to show and are
graded not only on the quality of the horse but also on
horse keeping and showmanship skills. First, they select
and register a young horse from within the county to be
eligible to show in halter classes. Weanling, Yearling and 2
Year Old Halter Classes are offered. Each
Production competitor must pass a barn inspection,
obtain grooming and showmanship scores, and attend Production Meetings that start in
January.
The culmination is showing off all
that hard work in Production Halter Classes at the
County show in the summer. At the County show, the horses and handlers try
to qualify
for the PA 4-H State Show in Harrisburg in the end of October. The judge will give out
only first and second place ribbons. All the horses that get first place ribbons
are qualified to compete at the State Show, being
exhibited against all the horses that qualify throughout
the state of PA.
Production is a very fun and rewarding
experience for the kids in our
